"The Flying Pig" at Portland's annual Adult Soapbox Derby.
Some racers were gravity-fed drunken party wagons (like the one that had 4 kegs for wheels), others (like this one) were slickly engineered headfirst adrenaline-fueled bullets of speed and danger.

First Swim
Here's a classic picture from back in July, Madeleine's first swim. Don't let that look on her face fool you-she had a blast!

Stunned by Shopping
Madeleine's happiest day ever: Retail Therapy with Dad. Shopping at Target, the baby store, and Home Depot.
Here Madeleine checks out back to school savings at Target.
Then it was off to Home Depot, where they have a whole aisle of ceiling fans.... mesmerizing!

$20
At the Tillamook County Fair 4-H auction you can buy all kinds of fresh meat. Look at this deal, nearly 20 pounds of rabbit for only $20! At that price they're almost a steal. And organic. And uber-fresh. And their sale supports a good cause. And cute, but cute doesn't make them taste better, does it?--Certainly there were some ugly pigs for sale that I'm sure would be mighty tasty!

Sam and the Little M
This is perhaps not Madeleine's best picture, but its the first time Sam the Big Brother Cat has shown an interest in his little sister. Maybe its because she always smells of milk? And has fun toys? And this comfortable blanket to lay on?

At the Market
What a crazy day... Maddy and Daddy at the library stand at the Farmers' Market checking out a DVD about Farmers' Markets. And Dad doesn't even have a library card, this was on Madeleine's card! We also checked out a book about vegetables that has lots of bright colors, just like our outfits and the pretty flowers we got!

Tip-toe through the Onion Patch
Early August garden update:
Sweet Onions (they would be Walla Walla, except they're not being grown in WW) are foot sized and growing, while red and yellow shallots are delivering themselves from the ground.
Despite efforts at soil improvement, what was soft and damp in the spring is now sun-baked and concrete.
